Valerie

LCSW — California

Valerie, LCSW, clinical supervisor for Anonymous Health, was born and raised in California, although her family hails from Uruguay. Growing up speaking both English and Spanish, Valerie’s cultural background has played a significant role in shaping her approach to mental health. She earned her bachelor’s degree from UC Santa Barbara and her master’s degree from San Francisco State University. With over 20 years of experience in the mental health field, Valerie’s passion for helping others was sparked by her early experiences as the child of immigrant parents. Witnessing their struggles with navigating systems, Valerie developed a lifelong desire to support individuals in their journeys and help make their lives less chaotic.

Throughout her career, Valerie has worked with diverse populations across California, offering advocacy, support, counseling, therapy and assistance in a wide variety of settings, including domestic violence agencies, schools, public health organizations, hospitals, primary care clinics, SROs, and City Hall in San Francisco. Her first role in the field, in 2004, involved working with dual-diagnosed adults (those struggling with both substance abuse and mental health issues) who had been formerly homeless. This early experience laid the foundation for Valerie’s extensive training in evidence-based practices, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, attachment-based therapy, and relational therapy. These methods have empowered Valerie to support individuals in overcoming various challenges, including depression, anxiety, PTSD, domestic violence, mood disorders, ADHD, parenting struggles, substance use, and more.

As a clinical supervisor, Valerie takes a warm, accepting, and interactive approach that encourages both clinicians and patients to feel supported and heard. She is committed to providing immediate, constructive feedback to clinicians, working closely with them to create systems tailored to their unique needs, and fostering a safe environment where they can express themselves openly. Valerie’s goal is to ensure that every individual—whether a patient or a clinician—feels seen, valued, and empowered. Through her guidance, she strives to provide the tools, feedback, and resources necessary for fostering growth, healing, and success. Ultimately, Valerie’s aim is to support both patients and clinicians in their journey toward relief and improvement, ensuring that they feel heard, valued, and empowered throughout their process.
