As a healthcare consultant and executive coach, Dr. Joann Schaefer Haines has built a multi-faceted career that has made a marked impact on healthcare and patient care. She has shared her deep well of knowledge across all arenas of the healthcare spectrum including healthcare regulation, public health, as a payor, and even a patient. Dr. Schaefer Haines suffered from a birth defect that led to a liver transplant 15 years ago. The experience further fueled her desire to create improvements in healthcare, which led her to Anonymous Health. She looks forward to sharing her expertise in support of the company’s mission to provide the very best whole person, patient-centered care in the addiction recovery field.

Dr. Schaefer Haines has decades of experience in public health, health insurance and family medicine, including as a family physician and tenured Associate Professor seeing patients from conception to their passing. Her previous roles include serving as the Executive Vice President at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska, where she changed the world of caregiving by employing technological advancements. She was also the first woman and longest-serving Chief Medical Officer for the Governor’s Cabinet of the State of Nebraska, during which she supported vulnerable patients with numerous public health programs. From working with governors to CEOs, patients to fellow clinicians, and everyone in between, Dr. Schaefer Haines has always remained committed to leaving this world a better place.

After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in biology from California State University Fullerton, Dr. Schaefer Haines studied family medicine at Creighton University, graduating in 1995. When she’s not elevating and evolving the healthcare industry, she spends time with her family and traveling with her husband Phil Haines, a retired U.S. Marine Corps gunnery sergeant and security expert.
