Dr. Joann Schaefer brings a rare view of healthcare from nearly every side of the table: physician, public health leader, payer executive, and patient. At Anonymous Health, she advises on outcomes and value-based care, helping behavioral health organizations connect better access to measurable results.
She served as Chief Medical Officer for the State of Nebraska, the first woman and the longest-serving leader in that role, and later as Executive Vice President at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska. A family physician and former tenured Associate Professor, she now works as a healthcare consultant and executive coach. Her own experience as a liver transplant recipient continues to shape her commitment to whole-person, patient-centered care.
Dr. Schaefer earned her bachelor's degree in biology from California State University, Fullerton and her medical degree from Creighton University.
